The Opportunity
WATC is seeking a Risk Analyst to join their Risk Management team. In this broad risk role, you will be supporting the delivery of a risk and compliance management function to manage the organisation’s risks. The Risk Analyst will have the opportunity to work across all risk classes, including operational and market risk, with a primary focus on credit risk. The role in conjunction with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Principal Risk Advisor (PRA), supports the development and delivery of a mature contemporary, integrated, efficient and effective risk management and compliance practices.
Key activities include:
- Providing oversight of their credit risk exposure, including daily monitoring of the credit risk of WATC and investment clients.
- Supporting their credit risk management, including undertaking loan assessments for local government and university clients.
- Undertaking periodic monitoring and reporting of local governments and universities to support their credit risk management.
- Supporting their credit risk management of financial market counterparties including ongoing monitoring, assessment and reporting to management and executive committees.
- Supporting the credit risk management of Investment Portfolios they manage on behalf of clients.
- Undertaking research into areas of emerging risk and to support monthly reporting on risk management.
- Aiding their management of credit risk to support reviews of credit risk management policies, limits, guidelines and models.
- Providing support to the Risk team on ad-hoc project or other strategic initiatives.

WATC’s ideal candidate is a critical thinker who can demonstrate a strong blend of the following skills, qualifications and experience:
- A tertiary qualification in finance, commerce, business, economics, mathematics or similar discipline.
- One to two years’ experience in a financial market or relevant risk management environment.
- Sound knowledge of financial risk management practices, trends and current developments.
- Sound financial modelling and quantitative finance skills.
- Sound analytical and research skills, especially in relation to financial analysis.
- Effective spoken and written communication skills, including liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work with others, valuing all contributions.
- Ability to gather comprehensive information and analyse data to inform decision making.
- Intellectual curiosity.
