This privately owned Western Australian engineering, foundry and manufacturing business operates across civil infrastructure, resources, rail and defence supply chains. The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for an experienced and hands-on General Manager to lead the overall operations of a well-established SME. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take full accountability for business performance, driving profitability, operational efficiency and team leadership across a multi-disciplinary environment.
This is not a corporate leadership role — it requires a pragmatic operator who is equally comfortable on the workshop floor as they are in strategic and financial discussions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations across production, engineering, sales and support functions
- Drive financial performance, including P&L ownership, cost control and profitability targets
- Develop and lead Department Managers, improving capability and accountability
- Oversee compliance across ISO standards, regulatory frameworks and defence-related requirements
- Manage budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes
- Improve operational efficiency across manufacturing, supply chain and service delivery
- Maintain strong stakeholder relationships across customers, suppliers and industry networks
- Support business growth through market engagement and identification of new opportunities
- Ensure governance, risk management and internal controls are maintained
You are an experienced General Manager or senior operational leader with a track record of delivering results in an SME or mid-sized industrial environment. You combine strong commercial acumen with hands-on operational capability and are comfortable taking full ownership of business outcomes.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated P&L accountability within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial business
- Strong leadership capability across multi-disciplinary teams
- Proven ability to improve efficiency, control costs and drive performance
- Experience in regulated or compliance-heavy environments (defence exposure advantageous)
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA)
- A pragmatic, sleeves-rolled-up approach with a bias for action
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery
