Bring your leadership and operational expertise to one of Australia’s most sought after civil and structural design consultancies.  Their 4 offices work together, operating as one, through intelligent use of internal software systems and a committed approach to servicing their clients nationally. 

The Role

As the COO, you will lead and optimise the operational aspects of the business.  You will be a decision maker, providing crucial support to the Managing Director whilst driving business outcomes in the team.  You will directly lead 4-6 staff in the administration and accounts side of the back-office function.  This position has strategic responsibilities, constantly seeking and implementing more efficient ways for the team to function. 

More specifically, your responsibilities include;
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for day-to-day operations, aligning activities with the organisation's goals.
  • Lead the coordination and management of ongoing projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that attracts, retains, and develops top talent within the engineering and support teams.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of operational processes and initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversight of digital transformation or technology adoption.
  • Responsibility for risk management frameworks.

  • Solid experience in a leadership role, ideally with a mid-size company that has experienced periods of growth.
  • Prior experience from a fast-paced consulting environment or professional services will be highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance, marketing, etc
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possesses a strategic mindset with the ability to envision, plan, and execute initiatives that align with our clients’ long-term goals.
  • A team player with the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Makes informed and timely decisions, considering available data and insights, and is not afraid to take calculated risks when necessary.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • Strives for excellence in all aspects of the role, setting high standards for oneself and the organization.
  • Qualifications in relevant studies such as business, commerce, HR will be highly regarded but not essential.
