About the Role

Beilby Downing Teal are working with one of the Northern Territories leading organisations, in sourcing a Chief Financial Officer.  Our client is responsible for building some of the region’s most iconic structures whilst also owning and managing many key businesses that provide services and hospitality to locals and tourists alike.  They have a highly committed team who enjoy creating opportunities for job seekers and also driving the commercial enterprise in Darwin and the surrounding areas.

This position will be a Darwin based CFO role.  Darwin is a city with approximately 140,000 people and an exciting, ever-changing future ahead.  In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and execution of all finance activities across the Group. This includes business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and negotiations. You will work closely with the senior management team to ensure financial health and growth across all sectors.  Our client operates in the commercial and residential construction and development sectors as well as in real estate and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute forward-thinking financial strategies that align with the organisation’s long-term vision, driving sustainable growth and profitability.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation processes, identifying opportunities to maximise value across diverse business portfolios.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to optimise financial performance and resource allocation, adapting strategies to changing market conditions.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure financial objectives complement broader business goals, enhancing competitiveness and market position.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards to build trust with stakeholders.
  • Drive operational efficiency in financial processes, fostering consistency and discipline in reporting across the group.
  • Implement a robust risk management framework, ensuring full compliance with tax regulations, corporate governance standards, and internal controls.
  • Provide senior management and external stakeholders with insightful, data-driven financial reports that inform key strategic decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, driving innovation and continuous improvement in financial processes and decision-making.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Partner with the Managing Director & CEO and senior management to shape the overall financial strategy, ensuring cross-functional alignment on key initiatives.
  • Provide strategic guidance to finance and non-finance teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and shared business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, driving innovation and continuous improvement in financial processes and decision-making.
  • Align financial strategy with the company’s broader business goals, ensuring that financial objectives support operational success.
  • Work with senior leaders to identify value-creating opportunities, driving business outcomes through strategic financial insight 5.
Skills and Qualifications
  • CA or CPA qualification, demonstrating a strong foundation in financial principles.
  • Expertise in finance systems and tools, including Microsoft Excel and ideally JOBPAC, with a strong understanding of financial processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with senior management, financial institutions, and external partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to align financial strategy with overall business objectives.
